Unprecedented Times: Bards in Lockdown
Coronvirus: Stay At Home
Here’s Coronavirus! – so please, stay at home
And leave it to your minds to roam
No Need to journey in your car
The police won’t let you get that far!
One form of exercise a day
No more than one hour, or so they say
You can cycle, run or walk
Stay 2m apart if you talk
Don’t forget to wash those digits
Just keep them off your face you fidgets!
These restrictions are here to stay
At least, through much of March, April and May
Boris has succumbed to fever long
His Tory chums must beaver on
And try and save the nation’s skin
What dangerous times we’re living in!
The kids are bored, locked in all day
They need some air, they need some play
And those with an underlying condition
Must shield themselves to avoid admission
Let’s raise a cheer for the NHS
And all those who are dealing with this sorry mess
Maybe at the end, we’ll see a better world
With love, peace and harmony unfurled!
Turn Off the Machine
We’ve turned off the ugly machine now
The one that keeps us struggling on
The ones that’s turns lives into clockwork
The one that’s slowly going wrong
Noses no longer on the grindstone
Toes no longer on ladders of success
We’ve stopped just this once to look around us
And we’ve seen how tremendous the mess
And no matter how much we still want it
No matter how we miss those rewards
It’s time to re-evaluate reasons
It’s time to stop sharpening swords
It’s time to meet nature with harmony
It’s time to bless all we’ve been given
It’s time to just stop and be thankful
And forget that we’ve always been driven
We can now clearly hear all the birdsong
We can hear all the highs and the lows
We can see distant mountains more clearly
We can watch as the old river flows
The blinkers on our eyes have been lifted
We can see with a myriad of light
It’s time to rise up and rejoice now
It’s time to say farewell to this night
